Our standards explain how we research products, compare alternatives, evaluate tradeoffs, and build recommendations to help shoppers make more informed decisions.

We start with specific products and their intended use. We look for useful product information, core features, practical constraints, and the details that can materially change a buying decision.
02 — Compare
We consider alternatives where they make sense. Our comparisons focus on meaningful differences such as intended use, features, size, convenience, value, and limitations—not simply a higher specification count.
03 — Recommend
We explain who a product fits, what stands out, and what to watch before buying. A recommendation can be positive while still identifying clear reasons a different product may be a better fit for another shopper.
Buy Better Score
Our 10-point score is an editorial assessment, not a retailer rating. We consider five practical areas:
- Use-case fit: how well the product matches the people and situations we identify.
- Useful features: whether the features meaningfully support the intended use.
- Practicality: convenience, setup, size, maintenance, or other real-world considerations.
- Value: what the product offers relative to its price positioning and alternatives.
- Tradeoffs: limitations, compatibility issues, recurring costs, or reasons to choose something else.
The score is a Buy Better Finds editorial judgment. It is not an Amazon customer rating, Amazon's Choice designation, or a guarantee of future performance.
